To probe possible relationships between the archaeological cultures of the Sahara and sub-Saharan Africa and traditional African art was the subject of a 1992 conference organized by the Center for African Art History in Florence and the Brera Academy of Fine Arts. Papers given at the conference by art historians, ethnologists, and archaeologists are presented in this volume. There are eleven papers, each in the language of the scholar: 3 in English, 5 in Italian, 3 in French. The introduction is in Italian, English, and French. The printing was limited to 600 copies.
