This study documents clothing made by the Dene, an Athapaskan speaking people of the Northwest Territory, from the late 18th century to the present day. The text contains an extensive discussion not only of the history of the Dene's striking garments, but a full description of each illustrated item. The visual information contained in this work consists of early sketches and paintings and recent photographs, patterns, and illustrations of clothing from museum collections. This work was also the catalogue of a Canadian Museum of Civilization exhibition by the same title.
