The aesthetic relationship between Mexican pre-Columbian stone sculpture and contemporary sculpture utilizing the many conformations of the cube were explored in an elegant 1991 exhibition at the Museum Morsbroich Leverkusen. The stone sculptures, drawn from a number of European museums, are strong and dramatic; the contemporary sculptures-representing the work of a number of renowned sculptors--are equally strong and dramatic. Each group is pictured in strikng photographs. The text includes six essays (in German) that pursue the theme of the relationship between pre-Columbian and contemporary sculpture.
