From 1931 to 1933 Michel Leiris traveled across Africa as the secretary-archivist-photographer on an ethnographic mission led by Marcel Griaule. Leiris' photographs were published in 1934 in a book, L'Afrique Fantome, that was received with great praise and acclaim. In 1988, famed photographer Francoise Huguier began a 1 1/2 year journey that retraced the journey made by Leiris and Griaule more than half a century earlier.
