The Hispanic people of northern New Mexico and southern Colorado and the religious images that they painted (retablos) and carved (bultos), beginning in the 18th century, are the subject of this study. This was the first volume in which a large number of retablos and bultos were illustrated in color photographs and in which the society that produced these images was discussed.
