Between 1927 and 1929 Marius Barbeau conducted extensive fieldwork among the Nishga people of the Ness River in British Columbia. This volume consists of almost 300 of his photographs, each with a detailed description. The photographs are not only of the village and the country around it, but of people in costume; 19th century frontlets, headdresses, and masks; totem poles, grave monuments, and rituals.
