THE ARTIFACTS OF PECOS

Peabody Foundation for Archaeology No. 6, New Haven; New York 1932; 1979 (reprint). xvi, 314 pages, 248 figures. Cloth cover. Papers of the Southwestern Expedition. Item #2549

This close, detailed study of the materials found in the important pueblo of Pecos in New Mexico, during excavations between 1915 and 1925, is one of the major studies of Southwest archaeology. Occupied longer than any other Southwestern site, Pecos yielded a treasure trove of objects: stone, projectile points and knives, drills, pipes, shell and bone objects, ceramic figures and vessels, beads, antlers, wooden objects and basketry. More than 1,000 artifacts are illustrated in this major examination and discussion of a key Southwestern site.
