Long known to scholars because of its exceptional quality and broad scope, the Chandler-Pohrt Collection of 19th century American Indian art from the Woodlands, Prairie, and Plains was exhibited, for the first time, at four museums from 1992 through 1994. This out of print volume presents the collection with detailed documentation and commentary for each object and a group of five essays that include discussions of the acquisitions (1920s-1960s) of the collection and the role of collectors. The collection is portrayed in 225 large, very fine color photographs that illustrate clothing, textiles, bags, beadwork, necklaces, pipes, parfleche, weapons, tools, vessels, wooden images, and drawings.
