CROSSROADS OF CONTINENTS. Cultures of Siberia and Alaska

Smithsonian National Museum, Washington, D.C, 1988. 360 pages (thirty-six papers) 476 color and b/w photographs and drawings of several thousand artifacts, 17 maps. Cloth cover. Slight rippling at bottom of some pages, otherwise very good-fine condition. Item #14509

An historic collaboration between American and Soviet scholars resulted in a superb 1988 exhibition for which this volume served as the catalogue. Focusing on artifacts from seven groups occupying the North Pacific rim: Koryak, Even and Chukchi in Siberia; and Eskimo, Aleut, Tlingit, and Athapaskan in Alaska, this exhibition contained the finest material of these areas to be seen since the seminal Far North. The text, containing thirty-six papers by American and Russian experts, is lavishly illustrated with many never before published artifacts.
