Atorie, Tokyo: 1935. Series I (chapters 1-5) . This volume deals with the painting of trees, mountains and rocks, and people and houses. Series II (chapters 6-9). This volume deals with the painting of orchids, bamboo, ume, and chrysanthemums. Series III (chapters 10-13).This volume deals with the painting of flowers, grasses, insects and birds. Item #12872

Each of the 13 chapters consists of approximately 120 leaves of text and illustrations, and is bound by itself and sewn into wrappers. The chapters were then inserted into blue linen folios (6 3/4" x 10") sealed with ivory (?) ties. This three volume work discusses and illustrates the history and techniques of Chinese painting. It was translated into Japanese by Kimita Rentano. Wrappers and leaves of text and illustrations in fine--near fine condition; some wear to linen folios.
