THE ART OF THE GREAT LAKES INDIANS
Flint institute of Arts, 1973. xxxviii, 114 pages, 163 b/w and 21 color photographs, 42 drawings, 4 maps. Item #1217
This excellent, comprehensive, long out of print catalogue of a 1973 exhibition at the Flint Institute of Arts contains very good photographs and historical and cultural essays by leading Great Lakes Indian scholars. At the time of the exhibition, it presented more Great Lake Indian art of a dozen or more Woodland tribes--Ojibwa, Huron, Illini, Iroquois, Kickapoo, Menomini, Miami, Ottawa, Potawatomi, Sauk, Fox, Eastern Sioux, and Winnebago--than had ever before been exhibted, and it traced the art of these peoples from the time of contact to the early 20th century.
