One of the great collections of Indonesian stone figures is in Ge-neva’s Musee Barbier-Mueller. These ancient, incredibly strong figures are presented for the first time in this splendid volume. The text (in French) analyzes the wide varieties (and ages) of these monumental figures and discusses their ritual usage and symbolism. The photographs--about half of which are archival or were taken in the field--present the largest corpus to date of these figures.
