Acquired over the last 15-20 years, the Bareiss collection of African art contains outstanding examples--most never before published--of prototypical pieces from Guinea, the Western Sudan, and areas of the Congo, in addition to superb, unusual pieces from the eastern and southern coastal regions (Tanzania, Mozambigue, Malawi) and from Zambia, Angela and other areas of the Congo. This wonderful assemblage visited two German, one Austrian, and two U.S. museums from 1997-2000. This spectacular catalogue of the exhibition contains absolute splendid, large photographs and an especially illuminating and thought-provoking text.
